The TTouch Method

TTouch_Logo_ttouch_tagThe Tellington TTouch Method, also known as TTouch is often incorporated into our canine swim sessions. TTouch is a gentle training method that influences behavior, performance and well- being. TTouch works to develop the dog’s ability to learn without fear or force. The TTouch Method is an invitation for improved body awareness, balance and focus as well as building confidence. This is a wonderful approach for nervous, shy or even aggressive first time swimmers.

TTouch is known as the touch that teaches. This method of training affects the nervous system, and elicits changes in brain wave patterns, also stimulating the use of new neural pathways. Slow, calming, safe, organized TTouch is offered to the dog to release tension and serve to increase body awareness. This new awareness gives the canine body new information, which is an invitation for better posture as well as improved balance, and mobility.

What is the difference between canine massage and TTouch?

The TTouch Method is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than massage. They are in no way related and no comparison can be made. The TTouch Method is not massage in ANY WAY, shape or form. The TTouch Method is not another name for a type or style of massage or therapeutic touch. TTouch is not a treatment, therapy, or a cure for any ailment or condition.

TTouch is a gentle non-invasive training method that is a well documented, studied and proven approach to influencing behavior, performance and well-being. It is an invitation for a dog’s mind and body to make positive changes. Canine massage involves working with the muscular tissues while TTouch training does not.

One component of TTouch offers the dog non invasive contact on a cellular level to invite physical rebalancing, posture and improved mobility as well as emotional health. TTouch influences physical, mental and behaviorial changes. It is my experience in working with animals that the TTouch Method is very effective. Under circumstances where there is tenderness from a surgery site or other pain issues, massage of the affected area may be inappropriate and not welcomed by the dog. The TTouch Method offers options in these situations. We believe that The TTouch Method is the perfect approach to compliment the customized swim sessions for your dog at Pampered Paw Swim Spa, LLC.

How might my dog benefit from incorporating TTouch into the swim session?

At Pampered Paw Swim Spa, we incorporate the TTouch Method at the beginning of the swim session and during the rest sets, as the dog is immersed in the warm water. We may also use TTouch tools such as calming bands and wraps during the swim session depending on the dog. These TTouch methods enhance the benefits of the swim spa experience for your dog. Depending on the desires and goals you have for your dog TTouch ground work can also be incorporated into your appointment as time allows.

Surgeries and past injuries many times leave a pattern of pain and less than optimum function of the affected body area. This pattern often continues without the dog even being aware of it. This often causes stress on other areas as the body over works to compensate. This can affect the mood, behavior and health of your dog. TTouch is used to bring these patterns to awareness. Once aware the body is then able to re-pattern, creating an invitation for more balanced movement.

TTouch is often the method of choice for Arthritis, hip dysplasia, tension and stress. Here at Pampered Paw Swim Spa we offer a first of its kind swim session in combination with the TTouch Method. Since TTouch is the touch that teaches, I would love to teach you ways to incorporate it into your daily routine with your best friend to deepen the bond you both share.
